The European Masters Committee totally supports equality in the sport of Masters weightlifting. This means that the Committee will not tolerate racism, sexism, or politics within Masters weightlifting or at any of our championships.

The first time women lifted in an International Masters Weightlifting event was at the World Masters Championship in Perth, Australia, 1994. Now the women are an important and integral part of Masters weightlifting. We record their European Women’s Records and we have a European Masters Women’s Hall of Fame. It is important that we recognize their achievements and the special qualities they bring to our sport.

Many of us do not speak the same language. We only see each other once or twice a year. Foremost in our minds when we meet, is the competition. Naturally we are all growing older, but we are still able to compete with a fierce and friendly rivalry. Once we have competed we can sit together, perhaps talk (through interpreters), and enjoy a meal or a drink together. The European Masters Committee endorses the ideal that there must be no intolerance relating to sex, race or religion. There is no place in Masters sport for anyone who doesn’t hold the same ideals.

In the immediate future I will take the time to talk to all the European National Chairmen whenever possible, at European Masters Championship events. I would ask that you all find the time in your busy championship week schedule to find the time to approach me and talk to me. That’s how we can all be united in our friendship and love of our sport.

Finally, please do not forget Congress. Some National Masters Chairmen are notable absentees at our annual Congress. It is important that you attend and ensure that you can express your opinions and both influence and receive information on behalf of your athletes. Remember, it is your Congress and these are your championships.

We are now advanced into the new millennium and the European Masters Committee have decided that this website will benefit all the people involved in European Masters weightlifting. This includes officials, athletes, National Masters Chairmen, and those National Federations that take an interest in their own members who are Masters. It gives all those who are interested the opportunity to view or download data such as European Masters records, Hall of Fame lists, and the Championship entry form. Before each European Masters Championship the website will also display the List of Competitors and the Daily Competition Schedule. Relevant data will be current. I hope you will take the time to view this website and perhaps you will pass on your comments to me – hopefully favourable.
